Montcada i Reixac’s City Council Department dedicated to Economic Promotion, Trade and Tourism is located in Carrer Alt de Sant Pere, n.73. Its main task is to put together resources to enhance business competency as well as assisting jobseekers and workforce who want to improve their education and labour skills.
The Economic Promotion area contributes to the growth of the productive sector by stating the cooperation guidelines between businesses and City Council, offering information and advice in the formation of new companies. It also assists in developing projects as well as promoting growth and consolidating businesses in the municipality.
On the other hand, the Trade area supports retail trade both individually or collectively, by educating, organising or promoting commercial growth. The Tourism area’s task is to encourage and diffuse the local heritage.
The Educational area organises work-related courses for active people or jobseekers. They are theory-practice based programmes that seek to improve personal professional qualifications and increase the capacity of those without a job to get access to one.
The Occupational area has a Jobcentre, job research resources and an employment orientation service. It is also in charge of improving people’s skills who are actively looking for a job.
Historically, Montcada i Reixac has been an industrial municipality characterised by urban growth, strong industrialisation and a high concentration of infrastructure and equipments, thanks to its strategic proximity and easy access to Barcelona. Currently, the city has a buoyant economic activity with 10 Business & Industry Estates that host businesses in a number of economical sectors.
It occupies an area of 23.34 km and has a population of more than 33,000 inhabitants. Approximately a total of 1,600 businesses operate in its more than 1,464,000 square meters dedicated to Business & Industry Estate use of land.
Its network of SME’s give Montcada i Reixac a powerful industrial character and allows a swift economical activity helped by its already mentioned proximity to Barcelona and a patent centralised occupational market.
Montcada i Reixac is also located within a large junction of major road infrastructure such as the Nacional C-17, the Nacional N-150 and the C-58 highway, the latter being connected to the Highway AP-7 in it both directions Girona-France and Tarragona-Lleida.
There are five train stations: Can Sant Joan, Montcada Centre and Terra Nostra (lines 4 & 5), Montcada Centre (line 2), and Mas Rampinyo, all of them belonging to Renfe’s “rodalies” services (rodalies means surroundings). Line 2 covers the route Barcelona – Sant Celoni – Girona – Portbou, Line 3 Barcelona – Vic – Puigcerda, Line 4 Barcelona – Terrassa – Manresa, and line 7 Barcelona – Cerdanyola UAB – Martorell. Likewise, there is an underground station in Can Cuias Borough, belonging to line 11.
